Cross Border E-Commerce

Under the complex and changeable international situation, China's foreign trade has achieved counter trend growth in the first 11 months of 2024. Among them, China's cross-border e-commerce shows a strong growth momentum, becoming a key force to promote the growth of foreign trade. Data shows that in the first three quarters of 2024, China's cross-border e-commerce import and export reached 1.88 trillion yuan, an increase of 11.5% year on year, both hitting a record high.

What's more, in the past year, cross-border e-commerce and the industrial belt have constantly "collided" to create new momentum. In 2024, a series of support policies have been issued from the central to local governments to promote the development of "cross-border e-commerce+industrial belt". More and more traditional foreign trade enterprises are based on the local characteristic industrial belt, promoting the "Internet access upgrade" of their own brands, and constantly improving their ability to expand overseas markets.

Strong development momentum of cross-border e-commerce

In recent days, Jinyishun Import and Export Trade (Xuzhou) Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jiangsu Jinpeng Group, has been busy with production and orders, striving to achieve the goal of overseas sales of all kinds of new energy products in the new year.

"In recent years, the company's exports have maintained an annual growth rate of more than 30%, which is mainly due to the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce business." The relevant person in charge of Jinyishun Import and Export Trading Company said that the company has continuously expanded the international market and improved brand awareness by settling in Amazon, Ali International Station and other cross-border e-commerce platforms, "Many orders for electric tricycles are received through overseas e-commerce platforms, and customers are attracted to them".

The immediate experience of business entities reflects that cross-border e-commerce has gradually become a major part of foreign trade development. At present, Jiangsu Province has not only achieved full coverage of 13 cross-border e-commerce pilot zones with districts and cities, but also built several Cross border E-commerce Industrial Park , forming an industrial cluster, providing a broader development space for enterprises to go to sea. In the first 11 months of 2024, Jiangsu Province registered 322 cross-border e-commerce related enterprises, an increase of 12.2% over the same period of 2023.

The rapid development of cross-border e-commerce has promoted the steady growth of foreign trade in Jiangsu Province. According to the data, the import and export of Jiangsu's goods trade in the first 11 months of 2024 reached 5.09 trillion yuan, a record high in the same period of history.

In the face of complex and severe external challenges, cross-border e-commerce has become a new driving force for China's foreign trade growth.

"Looking back to 2024, the highlight of China's cross-border e-commerce development is not only reflected in the continuous expansion of its scale, but also in the optimization of its market structure and the deepening of its technology application." Hong Yong, an expert of the 50 person Forum on China's Integration of Data and Reality, gave an example in an interview. In terms of regional distribution, Guangdong, Zhejiang Jiangsu and other southeast coastal areas have become major export destinations of cross-border e-commerce by virtue of their manufacturing advantages and perfect logistics systems; In terms of categories, high value-added products represented by electronic products and household products have gradually become export hot spots, which reflects that China's cross-border e-commerce is gradually transforming to high-end and brand oriented. In addition, with the application of blockchain, artificial intelligence and other technologies, the payment security and logistics efficiency of cross-border e-commerce have been significantly improved.

Release the polymerization effect of 1+1>2

In the warehouse of cross-border e-commerce enterprises in the Comprehensive Bonded Zone of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, packages of different trade modes are combined and packaged according to the order to complete the consolidation and rapid outbound, ready to take the next day's flight to all parts of the world. At present, Guangzhou Port has attracted more than 1000 cross-border e-commerce enterprises to carry out business, forming a complete cross-border e-commerce ecosystem from preferential policies, platform agglomeration to convenient logistics and financial innovation.

When cross-border e-commerce and industrial belt go forward in both directions and unite with each other, many cities are also forming a unique development model of "cross-border e-commerce+industrial belt", releasing the aggregation effect of "1+1>2" and bringing new growth points for foreign trade development.

In the past year, the policy level has continuously released positive signals to promote the development of "cross-border e-commerce+industrial belt". The Ministry of Commerce proposed to vigorously develop the cross-border e-commerce enabling industry belt, encourage platform enterprises and chain owners to go deep into the local characteristic industry belt, including 165 cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones nationwide to cooperate, and help more foreign trade enterprises, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, access foreign buyers, obtain orders and participate in international trade through the cross-border e-commerce online platform.

The Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce recently issued the "Guangzhou Measures to Promote the High Quality Development of E-Commerce (Draft for Comments)", which proposed to actively develop the "cross-border e-commerce+industrial belt" model, drive the "brand going abroad" of the characteristic industrial belt, enhance the international competitiveness of Guangzhou brands, and build a "cross-border e-commerce city".

The relevant person in charge of the Economic Development Bureau of Jiangning Development Zone, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, told reporters that it would give full play to the advantages of the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone, integrate the element resources of the comprehensive protection zone, the airport and other customs special supervision zones, accelerate the introduction of service providers in marketing, payment, logistics, operation and other fields, improve the cross-border e-commerce industry ecology, and promote the development of the silicon lane, comprehensive protection zone The three cross-border e-commerce industrial parks in the airport accelerate the construction of cross-border e-commerce industrial clusters.

Hong Yong said that the development model of "cross-border e-commerce+industrial belt" not only helps to improve the international competitiveness of local industries, but also helps to promote the coordinated development of regional economy. This mode can effectively exert the cluster effect of enterprises in the industrial belt, reduce the operating costs of individual enterprises, and improve the flexibility and response speed of the overall supply chain.

"In the future, in order to further exert the advantages of this model, all relevant subjects need to make greater efforts in brand building, technological innovation, talent training, etc., strengthen the docking with overseas markets, and explore a more diversified cooperation model." Hong Yong said.

In addition, Hong Yong stressed that in 2025, China's cross-border e-commerce will face a more complex international trade environment. He suggested that in this context, relevant government departments should help enterprises cope with uncertainty by optimizing the business environment, providing policy support and financial support; Enterprises need to enhance their innovation ability, improve product quality and service level, and actively expand emerging markets to build a diversified market layout to enhance their risk resistance and international competitiveness.
