Bangladesh's cheap labor costs helped Bangladesh to join the global supply chain of low-end textiles and clothing.

Bangladesh has almost doubled the minimum monthly wage of millions of garment industry workers, reaching 3000 Taka (43 US dollars), which came into force in November. However, compared with competitors such as China, India, Vietnam and Thailand, the wage of garment and garment workers in Bangladesh is still low.

Bangladesh made clothing for international brands such as Pani, WAL-MART, H&M, Karl, Martha department stores and Carrefour. In fiscal year 2009-10, Bangladesh's clothing exports increased by 4.11% to $16 billion 200 million, but still below target.
